A Social Impact Report on Wellbeing, Opportunity, and the Journey Beyond Care

Social Impact Report: Empowering Young People Through Creativity, Community & Wellbeing

We’re proud to share the latest insights from our youth-led Development Programme. An initiative designed to support some of the most vulnerable young people in our community. Over the past year, the programme has worked closely with up to twelve individuals aged 16–25 who identify as Care Leavers or young women facing the complex socio-economic challenges of transitioning out of the care system and into independent life.

Addressing Barriers, Building Foundations

For many participants, the journey into adulthood is made significantly harder by experiences of trauma, poor mental health, and ongoing instability. These barriers often stand in the way of securing paid employment or continuing education. Recognising this, our programme placed Health and Wellbeing at the heart of our work.

From the outset, we focused on helping young people strengthen their emotional resilience, develop tools for positive wellbeing, and access a safe, supportive community that understands their lived experiences.

A Creative Pathway to Education, Employment & Stability

As the programme developed, our goals expanded to include pathways into education, training, employment, and ultimately financial independence. We achieved this by combining creative practice with practical guidance:

  • Arts and cultural activities provided new ways for young people to express themselves, explore identity, and build confidence.

  • Experienced specialists and practitioners delivered workshops that encouraged skills development, self-reflection, and personal growth.

  • A welcoming peer community offered connection, belonging, and shared understanding crucial ingredients for long-term change.

Through these combined approaches, participants not only engaged in exciting and meaningful experiences but also discovered new possibilities for their futures.

A Growing Community of Strength

Perhaps the most powerful outcome of the programme has been the formation of a vibrant, supportive community of young people with shared experiences. Together, they have created a space defined by creativity, trust, and empowerment—one that will continue to support them well beyond the programme’s completion.

As we look ahead, this Social Impact Report highlights both the challenges these young people face and the transformative potential of youth-led, wellbeing centred development work. We remain committed to expanding this impact and ensuring more young people can access the stability, confidence, and opportunities they deserve.
